I calmly walked around the race enjoying the fresh warm air blowing in my face. I saw the other tri-athletes and greeted them, wishing them a great race. I continued to walk around, my body and mind at ease. I was ready. I was prepared...somewhat. I was ready to dominate on this race as I had been practicing on my swim and I was already a great runner. I waited in line while the other athletes were starting their swims. It was my turn. I confidently stepped up to the timing platform. The chip starter said "go ahead." I stepped down into the water and I was off. I just knew that this swim would go well. In my mind there was nothing that was going to stop me until MY CHIP FELL OFF!!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!! After catching my heart as it had leaped out of my chest, I frantically searched my chip. I swam back, then forward, then back, then forward again. No chip. I jumped out of the water and squinted to see if I could see it from up above. No chip. Other people around me wondered what I was doing. "I lost my chip!!" I screeched. Several people helped me look while others prayed.............Then suddenly, there was light. Spring had come. Birds were singing. Handel's "Hallelujah" chorus filled the air with glorious sounds. After what seemed like a lifetime, one of my good friends had found my chip! There was applause and cheers everywhere. He threw it to me like a quarterback throwing to his best wide receiver with only 5 seconds on the clock and 40 yards between him and the end zone. I slapped it back onto my ankle and I was back in the game! ;D
All in all aside from that chip mishap, the race was fun and enjoyable. =)
Anyone else???
