Well this was my first race at this distance. I had covered the distance before about 6 months ago just to feel it and say I did but I did it at a casual 9:15 pace. Yesterday, not so much. Perfect weather for a race Minus the strong headwind for 6.5. Great turnout for this race but I must say the course is extremely boring. Anyhow.
My goal this race was to hold a steady sub 8 pace through 10 miles and then gradually speed up over the last 3 miles. Held sub 8 pace through 10 miles but did have to hold myself back a little at mile 8 because I was ready to run! At mile 10.5 I made my push. 735 pace then mile 11 was 715 pace. Mile 12 was right at 7 and the final mile was a 630. Managed to pass all 4 of my targets before the finish with the last pass being about 75 yards from the line at a dead sprint. It felt great to finish but was upset with myself because I missed my target time by :57. I am going to blame that on stopping in the woods to answer the call from nature. My finishing time was 1:40:57, good enough for 7th in my AG and 27 OA. I know what I have to do to beat that time in Dallas and this was just a tune up race for that. I am ready to go and rock Dallas!
