I can sum up this past Sundays race with one word...WINDY!!!! Holy cow it was windy out there. I know a few people were disappointed with the cancellation of the swim, but with the white caps out in the lake I can not disagree with that decision. Now with that said part of the bike course went by the marina where they are moving the swim to next year and that water was smooth as glass so that is promising.
The two mile run to start the race went well with the AG guys having a time trial type start. That allowed the groups to break up nicely for the 52 mile bike, bike course shortened due to debris they said. I personally did not see any evidence of debris and believe that the course could have been extended in a couple of spots to make up the four miles they removed. As I said earlier it was windy. 20-25 mph sustained winds with some gust much higher than that. By the end of the ride I was cooked and had nothing left for the run. There is only so much you can do in wind that relentless for that length of a ride. It was windy enough that it was difficult to take in nutrition, at least for me it was.
Even with nothing left in the tank I pushed through for the only part of the race that was the correct distance, the run. As far as that section of the race goes, well...lets just say I finished.
All in all it was a beautiful day. Very sunny and great temps, oh did I mention sunny? Forgot one very important item that day, the reapplication of sunblock after the bike. You know how they put your race number on your arm and age on your calf? Well its now tuesday and even though I removed the marker Sunday night when I got home, both numbers are clearly visible still
So needless to say my arms and legs are a nice bright red color and a nice reminder of the importance of sunblock. Looking forward to the other races I have on the schedule this year.
