Just letting everyone know that the Centenary Cycling & Triathlon Club participated in its first race of the school year this past weekend at the Bronda's Du (duathlon) held at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth on November 13th. The race consists of a 2-mile run, a 16-mile bike, followed by another 2-mile run. There were 186 participants.
I took three of the club members over to race and they did very well. I challenged them to beat me and two of them DID! My injured pride aside, I was very proud of them. It was extremely windy on the course...especially noticeable on the bike leg...but a beautiful day otherwise.
Jonathan Martin finished 12th overall and won his 20-24 age group in a time of 1:13:04. He averaged 20.0 mph on the bike while pacing a 5:30/mile average on the first run and a 5:59/mile on his second run (7th fastest). He beat out two Texas A&M racers in his age group.
Taylor Atkinson came in at 30th place overall and fourth in his 16-19 age group with a time of 1:19:41. He averaged 19.5 mph on his bike and produced a steady effort in his runs.
Chris Patterson would be the last Centenary finisher in 63rd place, getting 5th in the 20-24 age group in 1:28:57. Cycling is not his strong suit but he produced the fifth fastest time in the first run with a 5:26/mile average and the 13th fastest run of 6:10/mile in the second run.
For what it's worth mentioning, I got 40th overall in a time of 1:20:58. Not bad for an old guy.
This is our only race for the fall semester but we'll pick up a much busier schedule in the spring in both cycling and multi-sport events. We have a good group here!
